Created in 1821 and never bettered, Luxardo’s Maraschino Liqueur is a bartender staple and the heart of many classic cocktails, including the Manhattan and Aviation. Crafted from Marasca cherries grown in Padova, Italy, Luxardo Maraschino’s recipe and method hasn’t changed in 200 years. These cherries are harvested and macerated in alcohol and stored for two years in oak vats. After distillation, the ambrosia is stored for a further two years in ash-wood vats to develop an intense cherry-almond flavour. Cherry pits, leaves and branches are used in the distillation process to add extra fresh and earthy notes - another dimension to the intense cherry flavour of Luxardo Maraschino. Perfect Serve – Luxardo Maraschino is at the heart of the classic Aviation cocktail, an intense blend of cherries, violets and lemons You will need: 40ml gin (we recommend – what else? – Aviation) 20ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur 20ml Freshly squeezed lemon juice 5ml Creme de Violette Add to a cocktail shaker with ice and blend. Strain into a coupette glass and add a sweet Maraschino cherry.
