Eaux-de-vie in an XO cognac blend needs to be at least ten years old. This classification can also be referred to as ‘Old Reserve’ or ‘Napoleon’.
While the youngest eaux-de-vie in the blend needs to be at least a decade old, Master Blenders will include older eaux-de-vies in an XO blend, and most XO blends have an ‘average’ age of 15-20 years.
