Derived from the Scottish Gaelic ‘An Dram Buidheach’, meaning ‘The Drink that Satisfies’, Drambuie is a popular honey-infused whisky liqueur steeped in history.
Drambuie was originally created by the Scottish Royal Apothecary in the 1700s as a dram created for ‘Bonnie’ Prince Charlie. The Prince drank Drambuie every day to keep up his vitality.
Drambuie’s recipe remains top secret, but its nose and taste showcases a mix of herbs and spices blended with Scotch whisky and sweet heather honey for a sweet and herby dram.
Drambuie is sweeter than most Scotch whiskies, and is a perfect introduction to whisky for those who haven’t developed a taste for harsher flavours.
Also available as a 5cl miniature.
Perfect Serve: Drambuie is well-known for its role in the Rusty Nail cocktail, a favourite of the Rat Pack.
Originally conceived to sweeten a dram of prohibition-era bootleg whisky, this cocktail survived the prohibition era thanks to Drambuie’s smooth sweetness.
Simply mix 0.5 fl oz (15ml) of Drambuie with 2 fl oz (60ml) of your favourite scotch. Serve on the rocks.
