Cinco De Mayo is Spanish for ‘Fifth of May’. The annual celebration is held on that date to commemorate the Mexicans victory over the French Empire all the way back in 1862.
More popular celebrated in the USA than Mexica, the celebration is mostly ceremonial including military parades however in Mexico the celebration is marked with an arts festival, a festival of local cuisine and re-enactments of the battle.
