A Short History of Cinco De Mayo & Tequila 

A field of Agave plants which are used to make Tequila.

Cinco De Mayo is Spanish for ‘Fifth of May’. The annual celebration is held on that date to commemorate the Mexicans victory over the French Empire all the way back in 1862.

More popular celebrated in the USA than Mexica, the celebration is mostly ceremonial including military parades however in Mexico the celebration is marked with an arts festival, a festival of local cuisine and re-enactments of the battle.

The food celebrations are of course inclusive of all trademark food you associate with Mexico, Tacos, fajitas, nachos and they drink margaritas to celebrate the fifth of May. But of course, a true Mexican party and celebration wouldn’t be complete without a few shots of Tequila.

Stemming from the Blue Agave plant, tequila was founded in central Mexico in the 1600s. Presently, more than 300 million blue agave plants are harvested each year in order to supply the millions of bottles of tequila places on shop shelves.

The clear white alcohol is a very popular drink worldwide, most defiantly one to get you Cinco De Mayo party started. Here are our suggestions on Tequilas to drink for the celebration;

Casamigos Blanco is a light, refreshing tequila, which ripples with notes of freshly chopped mint, vanilla and subtle agave. Owned by actor George Clooney, the Casamigos tequila process is slow. With the agave roasted for 10 times the average and fermented for twice as long, the silver is rested for two months after distillation and is an excellent example of the category.
